Claudia is a 2019 Rhodes Scholar from Kenya reading Jurisprudence (L.L.B) at Exeter College as a senior-status student. Prior to this, she worked as a Development Assistant for Legal Outreach, an educational non-profit in New York City. She graduated from Wesleyan University with an African Studies Minor and Honors from the College of Social Studies – a multidisciplinary major of History, Government, Economics, and Social Theory/Political Philosophy (its equivalent to P.P.E. at Oxford). While at Wesleyan, Claudia launched an educational project in her hometown Kilifi and served as; Senator of the Wesleyan Student Assembly, Residential Advisor, President of Kenya Scholar Access Project (KenSAP), Member of the Patricelli Centre for Social Entrepreneurship Board and the African Students Association (ASA) Board as Vice President 2015-2016, Treasurer 2016-2017, and President 2017 – 2018. While ASA President, she launched the first ever Africa week at Wesleyan University which featured a conference, an African film, and a food and cultural show. As treasurer of AfriSOC, she hopes to use her leadership experience to push for more programming in order to support the welfare of African students at Oxford and thus create an even larger and cohesive community.
